End of January

First and foremost, my daughters were both given a clean bill of health yesterday at the pediatrician's office.  They both had pneumonia earlier this month.  That was such a relief, and they really have been back to normal lately, but it is always nice to hear from the doctor.  I can't think of a better way to end January than having two healthy little girls in the house.

On a fitness note, yesterday was probably my least productive day of 2012.  Only got a mile with my dogs and a minimal amount of strength training in.  On the flipside, I got up early today and did some strength training, and will hopefully get an outdoor run in on such a beautiful January afternoon.

In the business world, I had a lot of service work to do for some policyholders early on today.  Following that, I got word that one of the new accounts I've been working on is coming on board with us.  Very excited about this one.

Enjoy the beautiful weather today and tomorrow.

Late January

Here we are in late January, temperatures near 40 today, in the 50's tomorrow, and possibly 60 on Wednesday.  It's been a crazy winter, or lack thereof.  I'm averaging 11 miles a week with my dogs, 6 miles on the treadmill, and 6 miles on the bike right now, along with countless reps of different strength training exercises.  Rather than just my focus on cardio as I've done in the past, I'm now focusing more on making my whole body stronger with an emphasis on cardio.  I'm feeling great doing it.  I have an indoor triathlon coming up in two weeks and a half marathon coming up in seven weeks.  I really need to step up my milage, but it is difficult to find the time for long runs with two young daughters in the house.

Speaking of my daughters, they head back to the pediatricians office today to get cleared of their pneumonia diagnosis, and the youngest gets to get caught up on her vaccinations.  I'm sure she will love it!

Busy day at the office today.  Lots of service work on existing policyholders to start the day today, and now moving on to a life insurance quote and two commercial quotes.  Just got off the phone with an old friend who is spinning her son off onto his own policy as well, so that will be a nice auto insurance application as well. Until next time...

Winter6

An early start to the day.  My 1 year old had me up at 3a.m.  She's teething, breaking the last few teeth through until we are finished with this stage.  Had an umpires clinic at 9a.m. in Chambersburg, so I had to miss church today.  Got back home to spend some good time with my girls and getting ready to cook some steaks on the grill for dinner.

Got 3 miles in with the dogs and some good strength training in yesterday.  2 miles in with them already today and trying to decide what type of workout to get in tonight.

Back to work tomorrow.  I have an auto insurance appointment lined up for the week and some commercial prospecting to get done and contacts to make.  Hoping for a busy week.  Makes the time go much faster.

Winter5

Up at 5a.m. and a 2 mile walk with my dogs.  My daughters and my wife got to sleep in, so that is a good thing.  Made breakfast for everyone after I finished my walk.  Last night was a good night, took the girls for ice cream after we had dinner.  They were so good this week, I thought they deserved a special treat.  Strength training yesterday and a mile with my dogs, but no great cardio workout.  Looking forward to a run later and taking my oldest daughter swimming.  In the process of making a big batch of homemade ham & bean soup.  This weather has been crazy for January.  55 degrees yesterday, cooler today, but still nice for January.  Umpires clinic tomorrow will occupy most of my morning.  Enjoying a good family day today.

Winter 4

50 degrees when I left the house today.  It felt more like spring time than the middle of winter.  Yesterday was a good day for fitness. I got 3.5 miles on the treadmill, 6.25 miles on the bike, and some good strength training in.  Throw in 2 miles with the dogs to finish up the day, and all in all it was a good day.  Both daughters had a really good evening.  We had dinner together, played for a little while, and watched 101 Dalmations.
On a working note, I picked up a life insurance quote, commercial liability quote, and a professional liability quote during the day yesterday.  January is moving right along.

Winter 3

My youngest daughter decided to get up at 4:30a.m.  Not that bad for me considering the alarm generally goes off at 5 anyway.  She drank a half cup of milk and fell back to sleep in my arms until roughly 6:30.  I enjoy the Daddy/Daughter time very much, but her nap really eliminated any chance for me to get anything done.  I will be hitting the gym this afternoon for at least 3 miles on the treadmill and 5 or 6 miles on the bike, possibly even swim a few laps depending on the time.
Had a busy day at the office yesterday quoting a nice commercial account, and a small liability policy for an office rental.  Things are a bit quiet today, but that gives me a chance to get caught up a bit anyway.

Winter 2

Both daughters recovering well from pneumonia they were diagnosed with earlier this month.  Things were a little crazy at my house for a couple weeks as my oldest daughter got sick first, and then naturally my youngest caught it from her.  They were upset I was unable to take them outside and play in the snow last week.  I just didn't want to take any chances.  I'm sure there will be more snow here before the end of winter.  A fairly busy week in the insurance industry this week for me, but not as busy as last week.  Umpires clinic this Sunday as we get closer to spring.  I managed a good run on the treadmill yesterday, and have forced myself to do at least some form of strength training every day so far this year.  It seems to be paying off.  Training for an indoor triathlon next month, and a half marathon in March.  Life just keeps getting busier.

WINTER

Here we are in the midst of winter, and it is time to start thinking about softball season already.  Clinics are scheduled to review the rules changes for the upcoming season.  Organizations are always trying to tweak things a bit just to make things a little better for players, coaches, and fans.  There are a couple indoor events on the horizon for February and March, and before you know it we will be back outside and in full swing with tournament and league schedules.  I'm looking forward to another fun year.  I umpired just over 150 games last year, but I'm not sure if I'll match that again this year or not.
